FOR COUPLES, INDIVIDUALS, & GROUPS

PSYCHOTHERAPY

Meaningful change begins with a single conversation. Whatever brought you here, this is a place to be challenged, understood, and genuinely heard.

YOUR FIRST SESSION

WHAT TO EXPECT

Choosing to start therapy is no small thing, and it deserves a therapist who understands the complexities of relationships and the courage it takes to walk in the door. The work can be both liberating and anxiety-provoking, sometimes in the same hour, and that's exactly as it should be.

Good therapy holds two things at once: the compassion to meet you where you are, and the honesty to challenge the thinking that's been keeping you stuck. That balance is what creates change that lasts.

Scheduling your first session is a quiet act of hope. It means you're ready to start living the life you actually want.

HOW LONG DOES THERAPY LAST?

This is a difficult question to answer since everyone comes in with varying degrees of topics and issues. It depends on factors such as the type of problem a couple or individual client is seeking treatment for, how often someone attends sessions, and also how motivated they will work towards their goals.

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

In individual therapy, we usually suggest beginning with weekly sessions. That rhythm gives the relationship between you and your therapist room to take root, and it's where the deeper work begins. As therapy continues, the pace can shift, and that's something you and your therapist will decide together along the way.

Some seasons call for more support than others. A client moving through a crisis or needing more intensive care might meet several times a week, while others settle into a less frequent rhythm over time. Every person is different, and your therapist will talk through what makes sense for you in that first session.

However you arrive at therapy, on your own or alongside a partner, the work begins the same way: with honest conversation in a space built for it. Some people come to understand themselves more clearly; others come to rebuild something between them. Below is what to expect from each.

COUPLES THERAPY

Couples work goes deepest with a commitment of twelve sessions. Together, we'll explore what brought you here and trace the threads of all you've experienced, as a couple and even in the lives you led before you met. The work can be challenging, but it's the kind of challenge that strengthens a relationship rather than strains it.

Many couples describe what comes next as a new marriage with the same person. As we explore the different facets of your relationship and how you understand one another, the goal is never simply to get you through. It's for your relationship to thrive, not just survive.

This work draws on training in a range of approaches, including Imago Relationship Therapy and study with Esther Perel. More than anything, the hope is that what you build in these sessions, the skills, the understanding, the new way of speaking to each other, stays with you well beyond the therapy room and across every relationship that matters to you.

WHAT PATIENTS ARE SAYING

"6 years ago, I decided to make a decision about my mental health and saw Yvonne. I was dealing with relationship difficulties past and present, as well as some depression. I've learned a lot over the years about myself and relationships with others, thanks to Yvonne. She's not only a great therapist but an excellent teacher."

IS INSURANCE ACCEPTED?

Champion Counseling is an out-of-network provider and is not paneled with any insurance companies. This is a deliberate choice, and it comes down to protecting your privacy. To reimburse for therapy, insurance companies require a formal mental health diagnosis, and they retain the right to request details about your treatment and to limit the number of sessions you receive. We believe those decisions belong to you and your therapist, not to a third party.

Payment is due at the time of each session. If you plan to seek out-of-network reimbursement, we recommend confirming your mental health benefits with your carrier before beginning, and we're glad to provide a statement of services by email for you to submit. In many cases, your reimbursement may come close to what you'd pay as a copay.
